Saturday was an early morning for Kevin, but luckily I was able to take it easy a bit, since I was still exhausted from yesterday and getting to bed so late. Granted, “sleeping in” for me was six – ha ha!
Kevin and Kevin were up and out early because they were driving across the driver to New Jersey to go golfing. I know, we lived next to New Jersey for five years, but back then, Kevin didn’t have his goal of golfing in all 50 states, so now he is having to get creative anytime we take a trip – good times. The two of them had a blast, watched the sunrise on the golf course, and got to play two hours earlier than their tee time, which made them get back to the city earlier, which was awesome.

By 7:30 am, Amy and I were off on our adventures for the day. We took a taxi downtown and started things off at an amazing breakfast at Clinton Street Baking Company. We got there at 8 am and sat on a bench by the door to wait for it to open. As the minutes passed, we discovered that we were the first people in a line that soon wrapped around the building. Wow! And wow, the food was so good!! We shared an omelette and these spectacular blueberry pancakes – and we didn’t even take a picture. Ha ha!

After eating, we hopped on the subway to get closer to our next destination – Brooklynn!! We had both never walked across the Brooklyn Bridge and had always wanted to do it. We stopped for some pictures, and discovered this adorable shop on the corner where they had all this unique glassware and pottery. If you look really closely at our pictures, you can just barely see the Empire State Building framed under the bridge. Nice!

Walking across the bridge was actually really cool, although pretty crowded. The weather was perfect though, so that probably had something to do with it. Amy was not happy with the gaps between the slats in the bridge because you could see the cars driving under us, but luckily there was so much to see around us, she was easily distracted.

The bridge itself was so beautifully constructed and I loved all the details. And the views from the bridge were pretty amazing as well. Such a fun experience, and as we were walking across, I kept thinking what a miracle it is that I am well enough to be able to do things like this right now. Before my most recent treatment, there is no way I could have done this – or at least without it being the only thing I did the entire day.

After we crossed the bridge, we explored so more areas downtown. We would stumble upon beautiful parks, like this one with this fountain. So pretty!

And around every corner there was amazing architecture or a building like the One World Trade Center Tower, or a cathedral, or so many other treasures.

We made a point to visit both Stone Street and the tavern where George Washington had his farewell dinner with his officers after the Revolutionary War ended. And of course, there was Trinity Church where Alexander Hamilton was buried.

And sometimes you find random art pieces unlike any other, like these animals feasting together. Pretty cool and very unique.

For lunch, Amy and I headed out on the subway again to go to Serendipity. I have always wanted to try their frozen hot chocolate and so she made sure we went to the original location. We had reservations and walked right in, which was awesome. And of course, we had to get some pictures of the fun and quirky place.

We both ordered lunch on our massive menus, but the highlight of the whole thing was sharing the frozen hot chocolate. So very good!!! Seriously amazing!

After our lunch, we headed to Times Square to go to the ticket office to see if we could score cheaper tickets for a show for the night. Kevin and Kevin met up with us, and we went over the the spectacular Morgan Library and Museum. JP Morgan had most opulent and beautiful library in his office. And there was a special safe for his especially important and rare documents and manuscripts.

The library itself was jaw-dropping in its grandeur, and the books inside it were just as spectacular.

There was a massive collection of bibles, including, of course, a Gutenberg Bible. Wow! So amazing to see one in person.

After the museum, we headed back to our hotels for a quick minute before we went to dinner at Angelos Coal Oven Pizza up by Central Park. As we were walking through the streets, I had to get a picture of me with the 5th Ave sign to send to my sister, Holly. All of our years watching the movie, “Annie,” where they shout out, “We found Fifth Avenue!” made for a fun text.

The restaurant had the yummiest pizza – so good! And it was right by Central Park, and so we stopped by to enjoy the gorgeous weather.

Then we headed back out for the night, going out our separate ways since they were each going to a different show. Kevin and I ended up getting tickets to see “The Lost Boys,” which was amazing, but super creepy. I mean, teenage vampires hanging from the ceiling – I was lucky I didn’t have nightmares – ha ha! The show was amazing though, and two of the actors in the cast had just won Tonys for their performances. It was also in a very different theater than a normal NYC small theater – they had renovated it and lifted, making it so it could fit hundreds more people. Crazy.

It was such a fabulous day, and I keep pinching myself that I actually have energy to do all the things I am doing right now. My newest cancer treatment really is a gift in so many ways.
