We had some wonderful things to finish off the month of August (besides the trips Kevin and I were able to take). One of them was a weekend visit from my old college roommate, Christine. It is so fun to have her living in Dallas, because it means I get to see her every once in a while, unlike for the 28 years before that. While she was in town this time, we decided to take her to the Alamo, since she had never been there. Lily joined us, and then we had a yummy lunch on the Riverwalk. It was so fun!

Arthur also got to have an adventure with the youth in our ward, as they went to an adventure park about an hour away from us. They rode on the Alpine Coaster and did other fun activities, and he had a blast. It was sort of a “goodbye to summer” activity.

Speaking of Arthur, he is still in his crazy teenager “can’t ever wake up” phase. Maybe it has something to do with how he sleeps. I came in to check on him the other night, and this was the crazy pose I found him in – ha ha!

Another great thing that happened with Arthur was that he and his brother were able to go to the temple together to do baptisms with some of the youth. I love all the wonderful experiences these brothers have at the temple together.

Derek is still busy with his missionary service. They had a special devotional on Sunday, and he loved being with his fellow missionaries.

As for me, school continues on, and my students all got to the library for the first time this week. As part of my rotations, I will be taking all three classes to library every Monday, and the kids love it already. It helps that we have a fabulous librarian, Mrs. Calhoun.

We have already started off the school year with some engineering labs as well. They had a challenge to see if they could create something with pipe cleaners to hold up a cup holding 100 grams.

It was harder than it looked, because their contraptions had to hold the cup 3 inches off the desk. Only one of the groups was truly successful, but they had a blast anyway.

All in all, it was a great way to finish off the month of August.
