I know I say it every month, but seriously, where did June go??? It seemed to be over before I could blink. Luckily, we were able to get in some fun amongst all the other things going on. For example, the whole family got to attend a wonderful performance of “Rogers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella” that NEISD put together with their summer drama camp. They did a fabulous job, and they put it together in a week.

As for me, the changing landscape that is my hair is constant. The patched that have grown back in are about three inches long, and so my top hair can sort of hold them down. That meant that I could try wearing my hair down, which was so fun. (Just don’t look too closely at how round and puffy my face is from the steroids 😉.)

Something a little bit crazy that I did, was to buy two giant boxes of peaches and a flat of raspberries, fully intending to make jam, yummy dessert and bottle some. However, it was a bit overly ambitious considering the state of my ever fluctuating energy level due to chemo.

Thank goodness for amazing helpers!!! Between Lily, Arthur and even Derek, I managed to get it all done. We made raspberry freezer jam, peach jam, bottled peaches and made peach ice cream, raspberry ice cream, peach cobbler, peaches and cream dessert (from Mel’s Kitchen Cafe), and peach bread. Yum!!!

Over the past month, Arthur has developed what I am calling “teenager sleeping syndrome,” or the crazy coma teenagers get where you cannot wake them up. It takes tons of tries, literally dragging him out of bed, and then I will find him back in bed and asleep! Or after family prayer the other day, he curled up in my bed and went to sleep. Or when we were out running errands. Wow! Not sure how we are going to handle this when school starts.

One really wonderful thing about being out of school for the summer, is that I get to go on daily walks at the park – sometimes with my sweet kids. (Sometimes I have Arthur come in hopes that it will wake him up a bit – ha ha!)

I go early to beat the heat of the day, and sometimes I have other friends and family join me, like my cousin Angela, my Aunt Linda, or my friends Sharon or Shenai. When I am on my own, I listen to audiobooks or podcasts, and always seem to get distracted by the wildflowers all over the place.

Arthur has also had the chance to have fun with friends. he had his friend Jesse over one day, and last week he had Rhodes over to play, while his mom, my dear friend, Penny, and I hung out and talked while she gave me a pedicure. He also got to go over and play with the Groberg kids one day, which he loved.

And in the midst of her very busy school schedule, Lily had the chance to hang out with and go swimming with her boyfriend, Chris. Good times!

And so even though June flew by, it was pretty wonderful.
