What happened to our baby boy?? He is growing like a weed, doing all the exciting things, and just finishing this year of school with flair. It is hard to believe that he had his last day of 7th grade, and has only one more year of middle school before high school. (And any of you with high schoolers understand how those four years go by faster than you can blink.)

He has been extra busy this past month with lots of great things at school. A special theater banquet to celebrate the end of a great year, and so many other things. One of the things he was most proud of, and worked so hard for, was being chosen to the NEISD Top Readers Celebration. He not only had to read an enormous amount of minutes and log them all school year, but he was the top reader at Bush Middle School at the end of the competition. (Not hard to believe with the amount he reads, but pretty amazing.) For the party, they had book Main Event, and the winners from all the middle schools in NEISD came to celebrate with the librarians as their chaperones. He had a blast!

Another big thing was his special end of the year “Pop Show” concert, where they kids sang all sorts of fun songs, complete with choreography. It was a fun step out from their ususal competition and chamber music.

Arthur’s 7th/8th grade boys choir sang “Life is a Highway,” which was super fun.

His favorite was their second song, when they sang a beautiful rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” Also scattered throughout the concert were solos from various students, most of which were phenomenal.

It was a great night, and at the end he was honored for his service in the choir counsel over the school year. I am so grateful for all the amazing experiences he has been able to have, especially in his choir program with his spectacular director, Ms. Calvo. She has turned that program into something amazing in the two years she has been at Bush.

Afterward, we had to get a picture with out sweet boy.

Last week was Arthur’s voice recital, which is another wonderful opportunity to watch our boy shine. He sounded amazing singing his song, “Greenland Fishery.” He has such a strong, pure voice, and I think it is fantastic that he can do voice lessons right at the school with his instructor, Ms. Segovia. She is so good with him.

This week Arthur was honored at the 7th grade awards ceremony. I am so grateful that Kevin has the freedom to get off early to go to these events, because I am way too trapped in my school schedule to go, and it is so sad not to be there. Arthur was given special recognition for his 3rd place finish in Science UIL, participating in Regional Choir, and getting a Superior rating for the Solo contest. Pretty spectacular! (He was sad to not get the Honor Roll again this year, but he got a few too many B’s, and has a goal to fix that next year and be more careful.)

And so this little guy of ours is growing up, maturing, flourishing and finishing out 7th grade with flair.
