The day before Valentine’s Day just happened to be an early release day at school. Because our schedule was all messed up because of this and other things going on, we decided not to rotate and just keep our homeroom for the day. We had themed activities for the different subjects, and later on, we passed out Valentine cards to the class. It was an adventure of a day.

After dismissal, we were treated to lunch by administration and the social committee, which was fun. Then we were free to get things done in our rooms and work.

I came home to caramel beignets and beautiful flowers that Kevin bought me. And the next morning, on actual Valentine’s Day, he had a sweet card and a new pair of black golf pants waiting for me. I didn’t have the energy for much, but I did have cards and candy for the boys, and a card and lemon pound cake for Kevin (which I had baked and frozen a few weeks before).

The boys always love getting their chocolate hearts.

That night, we had invited a few friends over for a group Valentine’s day date. It meant no dealing with crowds and having fun together. We provided yummy pizza from a place in town we had heard about, and they all brought different sides or desserts. It was perfect. And when we weren’t all talking, we were playing one of my new games, and since it was boys against the girls, our competitiveness definitely came out – ha ha!

On Sunday, we kept the celebration going, as the boys were really sad not to have heart shaped pancakes, as is our tradition. So I put them to work helping make the pancakes, especially because I was not feeling great. The hearts never quite look like hearts, but we do our best. And this time, we made them into chocolate chip or cinnamon chip pancakes – yum!

Because it was gorgeous weather, after dinner, Arthur and I took a short walk to the playground in our neighborhood. He played and I read my book, which was perfect.

We also got to enjoy not having school on Monday for President’s Day, which was wonderful. I was able to get a few extra things done at home, as well as extra work done for school.
And because Lily had a three day weekend, she went to visit my mom and had a wonderful time with her. She even sent me a celebration picture when she completed a very difficult part of her senior project. Good times! I am so glad that the two of them were able to spend some time together.
