When your journey begins with a miracle – and not just a little miracle – a huge, massive, “Wow!” kind of miracle, it changed everything. It puts things in perspective and makes the hand of the Lord so apparent in your story, that you can’t help but be humbled and feel of His love.
That is how my cancer story started. With a series of miracles that were set in motion years before. When you see that you have been guided and put in specific places to make miracles happen in your life, there is no “why me” moment. There is only a “I can’t believe He loves me this much to have done all this to save me” moment.
On Tuesday, I had an appointment with my brain surgeon, Dr. Bogaev, for a follow up. Sadly, Kevin was in the process of flying home, so he didn’t get to be there, but since Dr. Hilton wasn’t seeing a patient at the time, he came in and joined us. We had such a great time talking, and then we talked about the progress I have made.
These two world renowned and amazingly talented Neurosurgeons pulled up the MRIs of my brain and we talked about the incredible miracle my surgery and the timing was. Dr. Hilton even had me take pictures.
These are the BEFORE surgery scans, and they are terrifying. The one on the left shows the massive hematoma and how the left side of my brain was so swollen, it was pushing on the right side. And the picture on the right really shows how huge that tumor was – the size of a walnut. How much time did I really have at this point. This MRI was taken the day before my emergency surgery.

And this MRI was taken in December. Dr. Hilton pointed out that there are very few surgeons in the world that could do what Dr. Bogaev did – removing that massive tumor with no damage to my brain. They both said that things look perfect – just a small scar tissue lesion in the area where the tumor was removed. And I am fine! Fully recovered from the brain surgery with no residual effects (even if I am still battling the cancer, this is a massive miracle). I just want to cry when I look at the evidence before me.

I just want to cry when I look at the evidence before me. How can you doubt that God is in my story? And so, yes, there is no asking “why?” or “why me?” – but instead, there is a chance to constantly look for the Lord’s tender mercies in my story.
