Kevin and Rob have been best friends since they met while serving missions in Germany a long time ago (think 1998), and when Rob married the amazing Angela, we were all grateful ☺️. We love getting together, and it doesn’t happen nearly often enough, and so when they let us know that they were going to come with their three youngest kids and spend some of their fall break in San Antonio, we were beyond excited.

They arrived in town on Friday evening, and we had dinner with them and talked and laughed for quite a while, before I had to get to bed, and they had to head to their Airbnb to get checked in and settled.

On Saturday morning, I had an appointment, but Kevin, Lily and Arthur were able to go out with the Drapers and show them the Alamo and the Riverwalk. They had a fabulous time, and came back in time for us to grab lunch for us all.

That afternoon, the kids were able to play games, go swim in the spa and hang out, while Kevin, Rob, and Angela and I talked and laughed together. That night, the four of us went out to dinner at a fun Southern restaurant called Ida Claire.

After dinner, we were so close to my favorite gelato place, that we had to go there for dessert – so good! We came back and the kids were happily hanging out – eating food, playing games and watching a movie.

Eventually, it was time for the BYU vs U of U football game, and although my kids weren’t interested in watching, I joined Kevin and the Drapers to watch the game. It may have stressed me out a bit, but we ended up winning 24 to 21, so it was awesome – and mostly worth my lost sleep. Having the Drapers there definitely made it more fun, that is for sure.

Sunday was a lovely day. The Drapers attended church with us, and then went back to their airbnb for a bit while we did study with our family. Later on, they came over for dinner, and then we played games and talked all evening. It was fantastic.

On Monday, Kevin had to teach seminary and go into work, and he also dropped Rob off at the airport, as he also had to go back to work. That left Lily, Derek, myself, Angela and the kids with most of the day to do something fun. We decided on Natural Bridge Caverns, since Lily and Derek had never been, it had been four years since I had been there, and the Drapers thought it sounded fun – which it was.

I was so glad that we were able to go, and everyone loved it. By the end, I was completely exhausted and needed a nap, but luckily they had a people mover conveyor belt to get us out of the cavern, and Angela was awesome and drove us back to the house.

Before we knew it, it was time for them to head to the airport and go home. But wow, it was such a fun blessing to have their family visit us, and I am so grateful for such wonderful friends.
