The first weekend in October is always a special time for us, as we take an entire weekend and gather as a family to watch two days of inspiring and Christ centered messages from our prophet, apostles, and the leadership of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This year, however, because of personal circumstances, and the passing of our dear prophet, President Russell M. Nelson the week before, it was especially needed and comforting.

There were so many wonderful messages, but one that really hit me straight in my heart, was one given by Elder Kevin Brown (No relation to my husband, even if they both have the same name, but just as awesome). It was about our testimonies of Jesus Christ, and how if you know, you know. It was so powerful.

I was feeling semi-well enough to bake, and so I enlisted Derek as my assistant, and we made the most delicious cinnamon rolls – they were giant and tasted amazing.

The weather was gorgeous, and so between the Saturday afternoon and evening session, I came outside and read my book while Kevin practiced golfing. Wow, it makes me so happy to see him out and swinging a club again. (Someday I will get some stamina and strength back so that I can join him again.)

For the evening session, the elders came over to join us, and so they got to partake of the amazing cinnamon rolls. They really turned out so well. It was wonderful to have them there to listen with us.

There were so many amazing talks and teachings, and so as the weekend went on, I couldn’t help but share so many quotes in my Instagram stories and on Facebook. It really was a soul filling weekend for our entire family, and I am so grateful for the blessings of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

And truthfully, it was the perfect surge of spiritual strength for me as I went in for my second round of chemo on Monday, especially because I was also completing the series of radiation treatments on the tumor on my spine, and all the side effects that come with it.

PS. Kevin was finally able to finish building his birthday Lego set, since he has full use of his right hand again – wahoo!! It turned out amazing!
