For a very long time, I had been wanted to visit New England, especially once our friends Becky and Dave moved to Vermont and later Massachusetts.  We finnaly figured that the time was right, and Arthur, Kevin and I headed out on our adventure.  We were up crazy early on Tuesday morning, and got to the airport by 4:45am.  Luckily for us, we just happened to be about five minutes before the crowd arrived,  and so before Kevin could park in the long term parking, Arthur and I had already checked in our luggage and were ready to go.  We even had time for him to ride on the escalators, because when it is 4:45 in the morning and he is chipper and helpful, the answer to the question if he go on them, was a resounding yes 😉.

Before we knew it, we were off on our adventure. Arthur had his window seat and all was well.  We had a brief layover in Chicago (of which I had to get pictures, attempting to get the Sears Tower in them), and landing in Boston by 1pm.

Once we arrived in Boston, we picked up our rental car and had the adventure of driving through all the crazy tunnels to get to our Airbnb in Cambridge, just across the river. We got there by 2:30, and so we were free to take our time walking to where we met our Duck Tour, but on the way, we had to get something to eat, since we (me) were starving.  As we were walking through the streets, we stopped for some quick food – a North Shore roast beef sandwich, which was very tasty.  (It is roast beef sliced super thin and with barbecue sauce on it, and it made me realize that it was these sandwiches that the franchise Arby’s got its start.  Cool!)

After getting some food in our bellies, Arthur got his wish of getting to play at a playground – we had seen a few on our drive to where we were staying, and some while walking through Cambridge, and all he wanted was to play at one.  We still had plenty of time, and so when we saw this could one along our way, we got to make his wish come true.

We met up with our Duck tour at the Science Museum (which Arthur was super sad not to go into), and since we were way early for our time of 4pm, the people in charge were awesomeand let up go on the 3:30 time slott instead.

The Duck Tour was fantastic!! Our tour guide was “wicked awesome,” and not only told us all kinds of fun stories, history, etc, but she taught how to drop our R’s and speak with a Boston accent 😂😁.   She especially loved Arthur’s name, or rather, A’thah, as she would say it.

The Massachusetts statehouse was super cool, and there was even a statue on the lawn of JFK.

One of the super cool things about the Ducks, is they are amphibious military vehicles, like DUKWs (“Ducks”) like they had in WWII.  That meant that our tour wasn’t just on the streets of Bosten, but also in the river.

 Once we were sailing in the river, some people got to help steer, which meant that Arthur even got to steer the boat!!  It was definitely a highlight for him.

And being in the river allowed us to see a bunch more of the city, which was cool.

Once our tour was over, because Kevin is a Veteran, he got to sign the boat.  Pretty darn cool!

I am so glad we did this tour, because it was a perfect way to get an overview of the city.  That, and all we had to do was to sit, look, and listen, which was perfect after an early morning and long day of travel.

It had been raining off and on through our tour, and when we were done, it came down a little heavier.  We walked back to the Airbnb in the rain, and since we didn’t want to have to deal with traffic (or really going anywhere else), we picked up some pizza at a place around the corner for dinner. 

For dessert, since we too tired to move, I ordered the most amazing ice cream sundaes from Scoop N Scootery to get delivered. (The delivery was not the best, as the driver didn’t follow any of my instructions and I had to hunt for where he dropped them off – which was not in front of the basement apartment where were staying.) Luckily, it was worth it – they were gigantic and so yummy!! The perfect treat while we unwound and watched “The Lego Movie.” Such a great day and a great start to our adventure
