Saturday morning, we hit the road, but instead of heading East to Texas, we drove south to the bottom western corner of Utah, to St. George.  A few months ago, I was lamenting about the fact that we had never had the chance to see the Broadway production of “Anastasia,” when I did a search only to discover that it was playing at Tuachan in St. George.  We decided to splurge and get tickets, even if it meant extending our trip a day, and I am so glad we did.

That afternoon, we arrived at our hotel, and Kevin and I crashed with exhaustion.  Eventually I ventured out to pick up dinner for us at Cafe Rio, and then we all chilled until it was time to head to the amphitheater.

Although I had never been to Tuachan before, I had heard about it, and it did not disappoint.  Tucked into a red reck canyon, it was stunningly beautiful.

Lily was especially excited to see the play, since back for Christmas in 2019, we had bought tickets for her to go with us to see the show, only to have Covid shut it all down.

Our seats were amazing, and the show was just spectacular. So very good, and it was awesome to see it all play out with the music, since we have been listening to it for years.  Also, Kevin and I are huge fans of the cartoon that it was originally based on, and I loved the way they tweaked the story to fit more with the reality of the history, instead of that fantastical (although I did miss the silly bat).

We didn’t get back to our hotel until almost midnight, and so we slept in a bit, and then Kevin grabbed us some breakfast.  Then we headed to the closest church so that we could attend sacrament meeting before hitting the road again.

At one point when I was driving, I had to pull over and take a picture of these gorgeous red cliffs.  The picture really didn’t do it justice.

The bad part of that day, was when a massive traffic issue, possibly caused by an accident, had things backed up to the point where our last 45 minutes were now supposed to take five hours.  Instead, we regrouped, drove an hour out of our way into the middle of nowhere, and managed to not have it take quite as long.  Really had me wishing we hadn’t gotten the hotel in advance, because we could have stopped at a different place instead.  Oh well.

It made for yet another late night, but it’s all good.  The kids were troopers, and even though the three of them ended up sharing a bed, they were asleep instantly.

Luckily, our last day on the road was pretty uneventful, and so we made it to our house by early evening.  That left us time to unpack, and even start the laundry, before real life began again . . .
