Months ago, when Kevin found out that there was a chance that he could possibly attend a conference for work in London, he did everything he could to make sure he was able to go.  Not only was he selected to go, but had to give a presentation at it, and so it was extra exciting.  And so, on Monday, Kevin flew out to London, England.

Kevin arrived early on Tuesday morning, and decided to walk the three miles to his hotel, and by so doing, he ended up walking by so many amazing things.  He walked though Hyde Park, and every time he turned a corner on his way there, he saw something new and amazing, like Buckingham Palace!!

He even walked across the Tower Bridge.

And of course, he found cool things, like the quintessential red telephone booths.  So fun!  (I wonder if they still actually use them?  I know almost all the telephone booths in the US are now gone or empty.)

He got so many great pictures of the city and architecture, including Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, the Tower of London, the British Museum, the National Gallery. (And since I wasn’t with him, and he refused to write this post for me, there will be lots of pictures without explanation.)

I mean, walking around, he would just find himself in front of St. Paul’s Cathedral. Or Westminster Abbey.

Throughout the week, Kevin got to find things to eat, and since England is not particularly known for its food, although he had an amazing steak pie in a pub on his first night, he found himself searching for things like pizza, or his last night, when he got Five Guys burgers and fries for dinner – ha ha!

Kevin really was there for work, and so although he took full advantage of walking around the city on Tuesday, he did have lots of meetings and work as well.  He even had a special opening get-together the first night that took place in the Churchill War Rooms – so cool!!  I mean, underground bunkers.  So awesome.  And he really loved getting to work with people from so many different countries.

On Thursday afternoon, they finished all of their meetings for the conference, Kevin’s presentation was done, and so Kevin hopped on a train to Scotland to attempt to play golf at St. Andrews.  (He had arranged to fly home a couple days later, so he could sneak in this side trip.)  When he arrived back in London on Friday night, he knew he would have a full day on Saturday to play in London, and so he got to explore more around the city.

I try not to be jealous of these walks through London, but really, I just think it is awesome that he got to wander and see things like Westminster Abbey.

He even walked to Piccadilly Circus and Trafalgar Square.

As Kevin walked through the city, he found the Lego Store, which had an awesome Harry Potter display – and he even brought home presents from there.  I also love some of the fun statues he stumbled upon, like Mary Poppins and Indiana Jones.  Good times.

The coolest thing that he got to do with his extra day in the city, was to go and see the production of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.”  It was the two part version of the play, and he said that it was amazing!!  (And he missed having me with him there to share it with him, and kept talking about how he needs to take me there.)

It was such a great way to finish off a fantastic week in the UK.  He flew home today – actually, we are still waiting on him to arrive, as one of the legs of his trip got canceled and then he got rerouted – and we can’t wait to see him and hear more about his adventures.
