On Friday, after Derek finished his last finals, he and Kevin hit the road and headed out on a western adventure.  We had signed Derek up to go to the same ACT and College Prep camp at BYU that we had sent Lily to in 2019, but now it was also combined with EFY. (It was all going to be perfect, until they extended the school year until the next week to make up for severe weather days.  Luckily, Derek was able to opt out of the finals he would have taken on the Tuesday after Memorial Day, and so everything worked out for them to leave on Friday.).  

Their first stop was Holbrook, a small town in Arizona, so that Kevin could play golf there.  Hi newest goal is to play golf in all fifty states, and he has almost all of the states in the West, and so with a tiny detour, he was able to knock out playing in Arizona.  Derek loved getting to play golf with his Dad. And for Kevin, it was the first of eight rounds of golf he would play during the trip.

When the boys got to Utah, they stayed the first night with the Drapers, which meant that Kevin got to hang out with his best friend, Rob.  I was a little jealous that he got to play games with Rob and Angela without me.  

On Monday morning, Kevin dropped Derek off at BYU, and then he went and picked up his friend Kevin H (mini-Kevin) at the Salt Lake Airport for their week of golfing fun.  Kevin H had never been out to Utah and Idaho before, and my Kevin loved getting to show him around.  Especially Canyon Springs Golf Course, the first of their seven rounds of golf together, as it is in the spectacularly beautiful Snake River Canyon with an amazing view of the Perrine Bridge.

They had a fabulous week of golfing, staying with Kevin’s parents in Twin Falls, and playing at Canyon Springs twice, Jerome Country Club, Highway 93, and Buhl while they were in Idaho.

Kevin H’s wife, our friend Amy, even bought the two Kevins matching shirts for the adventure.  Good times! And Kevin got to play all that golf in Idaho with his dad as well, which is one of his favorite things ever.  And sometimes his dad’s friends Ron and Ray were able to join them as well, which made it even better.

After a few days, the Kevins went back to Utah, and then drove on to Evanston, Wyoming, so that they could play golf in another state.  They ended up playing Purple Sage, this beautiful course that was tucked away near the highway, and after all the many times of driving through that area, it is crazy that we had never seen it. They loved it!  On their way back to Utah, they stopped at this exclusive distillery in the mountains, where Kevin H was able to get something to add to his bourbon stash. My Kevin said that the place was super cool and literally on the top of a mountain. Wow!

Later that day, they drove back to Utah and played Thanksgiving Point, which is another great course. It was the perfect way to finish off an amazing golfing adventure.  That night, they stayed with another of Kevin’s friends, Glenn, and then picked up Derek at his camp right before taking Kevin H. to the Salt Lake Airport.  But Derek’s week at EFY deserves its very own post . . .
