One of the most exciting parts of moving to Texas, is the fact that we actually live in the same state as family. We never live near family, and we can’t wait to get to be close. I have my sister, Wendy in Austin, my Aunt Linda and Uncle Scott in New Braunfels, and Kevin’s brother, Brian in Dallas. We moved here just in time to get to join Brian and his family for my nephew Isaac’s baptism. The boys and I left San Antonio right after school on Friday and drove to Dallas. The drive was pretty great, other than a bit of traffic on our way out of town, it was smooth sailing – and we had a fun book to listen to on the way.

On Saturday morning, the kids were up and playing with their cousins by six in the morning. Derek and Arthur had such a blast with Dana and Isaac. I was able to take a nice walk around the neighborhood with Dana, which I loved, since we have never gotten to spend too much time with them. I love getting to build relationships with my nieces and nephews. Eventually, everyone got ready for the baptism, which took place in Brian’s backyard in the pool.

The baptism was lovely, and we loved getting to be a part of it.  I even fixed Dana’s hair for it all fancy (which was actually a miracle because she never lets anyone touch her hair). It was a bit warm outside – hence Arthur being soaked in sweat, but having it in their yard was so very nice.  Afterward, there was a fabulous lunch with Brian’s pulled pork and ribs. Yum!

One of my favorite things was that Kevin’s parents were there, and so we got to spend the day with them. Dennis even joined the kids in the pool after the baptism, and they loved getting to play with grandpa.

Grandma Valerie even got her feet wet in the pool, which Arthur thought was great.

Later that night, after such a fabulous day together, the boys and I said goodbye to grandma and grandpa. I love that we might get to see them more often now that they have both Kevin and Brian to visit in Texas. So fun!

Sunday morning, we had breakfast and then packed up to leave, but before we took off, Dana let me fix her hair fancy for church. It was so much fun and it turned out so pretty.  I don’t think I realized how much I missed getting to play with one of my niece’s hair, which I used to do all the time. (Valerie told me that Dana even left it in all day and said that I must be the “hair whisperer.” So awesome!)

The boys and I made it home a little after lunchtime, and although it was sad to say goodbye to family, it is so wonderful to know that we live close enough to get to see them much more often.
