We are finally down to only 3 weeks left of Kevin being gone, and so for family Home Evening this week, we made a countdown to daddy coming home. Using an idea I took from a friend's advent calendar, we used up most of the Easter candy to make it. They love it, because they get a piece of candy every day they are waiting – much more exciting than a construction paper ring :).
We have been very busy while Kevin has been away, because although I would love it to, life just never seems to slow down. We have made sure to take time to have fun though, whether it is a walk around the block, family movie nights, or special treats from Sonic.
Last week, Lily begged me to go fly kites, and so we waited until we got the perfect wind and headed outside. Lily was in heaven and did a pretty good job keeping her kite in the air. Derek didn't have as much luck with his, but he was content to chase Lily with her kite. Their favorite part was when they had Marilyn fly it for them and she got it "all the way in the sky." It was so wonderful to be outside having fun, we should really do it more often.
I think we will be outside more often from now on anyway, because we are finally in the 80's here, which means the sand gnats aren't as bad. We have already taken advantage of the lack of them by walking Lily to school and playing at the park more. Soon we will even go swimming. It is so nice to have our warm Savannah weather back after it hid from us all winter :).
PS. Lily wanted me to show you her hair ribbon from Sunday. Her dress had a sash that was too big for her waste, so I took it off and put it in her hair instead. She thought it was so cool, that she told every person at church that her hair ribbon was really her sash :).
