I love my little girl so much. She is an endless source of entertainment and fun, and even though some days are trying, I would never trade a minute of it.
One source of both frustration and fun is piano. Lily really does love piano, but has a hard time focusing when she practices or wanting to practice at all some days. (Isn't every kid that way?) Well, A month ago I came up with the idea of her piano jar – a plastic jar that I fill with cotton-balls and the goal is to fill it to the top to earn a prize.
She earns cotton-balls for different things, such as not having to be reminded to practice, going though all her songs, not looking at her hands, etc. (On a bad day, I can even take cotton balls out of the jar.) It has really made things so much easier! Well, last week she earned her prize – the complete Frances books on CD, which she has listened to almost every night since she got it :). Now she is working on her next prize – fun times!
Lily also had a lot of excitement last week when it was "Dr. Seuss' Birthday Week" at school. They had a special thing every day, including some fun dress-up days. One day was Fox in Sox Day, for which she borrowed Kevin's socks (I realized she and I have no fun socks – how boring!). You gotta love her end-of-the -day hair and her fun pose too :).
But the best was the day they got to dress like a character from one of his books. Lily was Mrs. Brown from the book "Hop on Pop." She was so cute, even though she had to wear my clothes – thank goodness I had those brown leggings from Halloween a few years back :). What a character :).
Lily's creativity and imagination always astounsd me. Some days I just look at her and think, "Wow!" Like when she wants her dad to build her a bow and arrows (which he did) or a super-spy bracelet (which they are getting the materials for soon). One day she had been coloring, when she asked me to come see her "Art museum." She had made a variety of paintings and had hung them on the wall, with a few Lego sculptures out front. ( I only have a picture of the paintings though, because Derek destroyed her museum before I could get a picture. Little brothers.) So fun!
And then there was the other day, when she was telling us that school was boring. After a few minutes of discussion, we found out the reason she was sad, was because they aren't learning science. They are doing small kindergarten science units, but not the full fledged experiments she thinks should be happening. So we went downstairs to Marilyn's, where she got to help Stephen with his science experiments. She learned all about inertia and evaporation, and she was pretty happy about it. What am I going to do with my silly girl?
