This week is Red Ribbon Week at Lily's school. It is a drug awareness program, but also an excuse to have some fun as a school. They have been having silly dress-up days, a parade, and other fun stuff, and Lily was more than happy to get involved.
Here she is on the "Don't Let Drugs Tie you Up" and "Sock it to Drugs" days – she wanted to wear Derek's bow tie my parents got from Scotland, and I found her those fabulous tights for the sock day at Target.
Then today the school had a huge parade, with firetrucks, a marching-band, people throwing candy, and floats. Kevin, Derek and I went, and sat with Lily's class. It made her so happy! The funniest part for me, was watching her teacher spend the entire parade having to gather up candy from all those five year olds, so she could pass it out later.
Aside from all the school stuff, Lily has been having a great time with Halloween projects. At the beginning of the month, I let her paint a pumpkin, since we have to wait until the last minute to carve them out here – they rot in a matter of days. She painted "Princess Aurora" from Sleeping Beauty, and later on we added our pirate pumpkin to go with her. (Notice how her poor eyes have flaked off from the sun and the rain.)
Then yesterday we decorated cupcakes to take to her class party today. I put on the frosting, and Lily did the rest. They all turned out so cute, even if some of them were a little overloaded with candy :). I am taking them in this afternoon, which should be a blast.
The rest of our Halloween will be full, between helping in Lily's class and my taking some family pictures this evening, and then our apartment complex Halloween party. And let's not forget Kevin's build your own costume adventure, but that deserves its own post. I'll just say that he has been sewing like a madman all day . . . he he! I'll have to keep you in suspense until it is done.
