This morning as Lily hopped out of the van and headed to her classroom, like it was second nature to her, I found myself fighting back the tears that never came the first day of school.  Things have been really crazy these past two weeks – school, homework, a very strict routine so we can fit it all in, plus doctor's appointments, etc.

Not to mention the fact that Lily is struggling with her behavior, and there is so little I can do to help while she is gone.  (This morning as she said our family prayer, it nearly broke my heart as she asked for help "not to push people" and "to get a smiley face, and not a frowny face.)  And as overwhelming as it all is, I realized what was really bothering me – I miss my baby girl.

We have so little downtime together now, and I miss that.  I miss just being with her.  It really made me think of a talk by Elder Oaks from last October Conference, "Good, Better, Best".  It is amazing to me, that my daughter is only in kindergarten, and yet it is already a struggle to find time with her.  It just makes those car rides, talks at dinner, and books before bedtime all the more important.

And just so this post isn't too serious, I thought you all might enjoy looking at some before and after pictures of Lily yesterday –

how I sent her to school, IMG_2038
and how she came home :).  IMG_2037
I just love how her hair shows what a crazy day she had.  So cute!

LOL! Looks like she is definitely getting a work-out at school! I know what you mean about a lack of down-time. I feel that with Conner. But a good routine does help — hurry hurry to get all the “stuff” done and then we can relax. I hope Lily’s prayers work and she can have happier/obedient days at school. I remember when Conner was sent home with a pink slip in Kindergarten my heart just about sank! I sooo did not want that to be MY kid. But I’m sure as time goes on things will get better. There is an adjustment period and it takes time for these little ones to figure out the rules. Good luck!

I loved hearing about Lily’s prayer. Kindergarten can be such an adjustment. I hope she likes her teacher and is making some new friends.
Don’t you feel blessed to be at home with your kids? Now that I just have Brady at home with me, I feel like I have more time to get all the little stuff done (housework, errands, etc.) and then I’m ready and happy to welcome the other kids home. I also loved your before and after pictures! Too funny!!! My kids are the same way. Have a great time with your friend tomorrow!

The hair! So cute! Bless her little heart! I hope she adjust well and feels better able to control her behavior soon. I’m sure it’s just a hard adjustment, being with so many other kids all the time! Does she go to full day or half day kindy?

I love those before and after pictures. Your daughter is just so beautiful and seems like so much fun. I bet it is hard to just not miss her and the sparkle I can just imagine she carries with her (I mean, she is the daughter of the happiest girl I’ve ever met and the most hilarious boy I’ve ever known). 🙂

the hair is so funny! Every Sept. I think all moms have a cry and feel empty during the day. we miss our kids! and then next June, when school gets out, you’ll be so used to the school routine, you’ll think, “what in the world am I supposed to do with you all day!” it will be an opposite adjustment.

I’m sure Lily will adjust to kindergarten very soon. And I’m sure you will adjust as well! Every new step in our life takes a while to get used to. I’m glad that you remembered that talk from Elder Oaks. I just love General Conference! Oh, and I loved Lily’s hair. Adorable!

I am going through the same seperation feelings with Jordan. I giggled to out loud by myself as soon as I saw the before and after pic of Lily. Before I read what you wrote, I knew what it was. Can you immagine if we let our hair show all of our crayness for the day? Too Cute!

I can’t let myself think about that because we’ll be there with Petey before we know it! Lily is just such a beautiful little girl. . . mother like daughter!

Love the before and after pictures. Growing up is sad huh? Wish we could stop our kids from doing it!
