For those of you who pay attention to national weather, over here in Georgia, we have been getting hit with part of Tropical Storm Fay.  All it has really caused us other than some really heavy rain, is terrible driving conditions, and a pond and swimming pool about ready to overflow.  However,  it has had some other side effects as well.  You see, I had planned to spend these last few days Kevin had off before Lily starts school at the beach and the pool, but here is what has gone on instead . . .

  • Lily's Jet Pack – How many 5 year old girls do you know (or boys for that matter) who grab the shoebox their new shoes came in and proceed to tell you what you can do to make it into a jet pack?  Lily came up to me and said, "See mom, you put the small part in front, and the big one in back, and then you hook it together with some string."  IMG_1939Knowing that this is Kevin's favorite department, I let him take care of it, and together they put together a jet pack she has been wearing off and on for 3 days.  Now she wants to build a rocket.  (She is SO her father's daughter – he he!)

  • Kevin playing endless amounts of the Star Wars Lego's video game – Lily and Derek were so into it.

  • Kevin breaking out his Star Wars action figures and letting the kids play with them for the first time.  This led to . . .

  • Derek's Darth Vader impression – which is my new favorite thing, by the way.   For some reason my sweet little boy is drawn to the dark side.  Hmm . . . don't know what to make of that.  Here's a video of it all – notice Lily is wearing her Jet Pack.

  • Me starting a sewing project for the first time in months.  For Christmas 2 years ago, Valerie gave me the most wonderful quilt pattern, but I have been too intimidated of the hand applique to try it until today.  Not really wanting to watch hours of video games like the kids, and bored of reading – yes, it has been rainy that long – I was inspired to finally tackle it.  I am on my first block, and hope to finish it in the next week and move on to another one.  Maybe I'll finish the quilt by Christmas.

  • Getting Kevin's Army scrapbook up to date.  The pages are too big to scan – I may have to take pictures of a few of them for you to see.

  • Fun with the neighbors.  Can I just tell you again how much I love our new neighbors?  Lily went over there a few days ago, and when I came to get her, she had set up a fort/tent in their living room, along with a pretend fire that she was roasting marshmallows on using a small screwdriver.  That girl :).  We had dinner there last night and I had fun talking to Marilyn while everyone else played on their Wii.  So much fun.

I was worried about you guys with that weather! I’m glad that it’s only rain. But I know what it’s like to be cooped up inside with kids! At least you guys know how to have a good time. Good luck with the quilt, I look forward to seeing it!

WOW! You’ve definitely kept busy. I think I would use it as an excuse to stay inside and read/watch tv all day.

*so cute to hear Derek’s voice! Conner has always been very attracted to the dark side & the bad guys. I remember when he was younger and his favorite part of every Disney movie is when bad things happen to the good guys. I was worried for a little while!
*The jet pack is so so cute!

Wow! I am impressed. You are so creative…and so are you kids. I need ideas for this coming winter – for me and for HD. I’ll come back for more ideas. Glad you’re okay with all that crazy weather.
