to live so far away from family.

Over the past few weeks I have been trying to live in a state of denial about the fact that the Twin Falls Temple open house is taking place, and that the dedication will soon follow.  I even made it through the weekend almost all of my family got together for a mini reunion without thinking about it too much.  But tonight when I read Shannon's post about their trip to see Kevin's parents and going to the temple, I started crying.

I know, I know, it was my decision not to go.  And it was a wise one, since Kevin's job is so demanding right now that it would be impossible, and not to mention the $3000 for the plane tickets alone.  But it doesn't matter how many excuses we make or that my head knows it was a smart decision, right now my heart is having a little pity party that Lily and Derek didn't get to go play in Idaho this summer, and that I am not sitting on my in-law's back porch enjoying their view of the temple, etc.

So, I hope you excuse me a little bit for my aching heart.  Soon I will try and go back to denial, but just for a minute, I need to revel in self pity.  Thank goodness my sister is on an airplaneheaded to Savannah as we speak :).

And for those of you who haven't seen it, here is a picture my dad took of the temple, it is beautiful . . .

    oh Lisa, I’m so sorry! πŸ™ We missed you and thought about Lily & Derek while we visited (I read her fishing book – hehe). I can imagine it just stinks to feel so far away and not reasonably able to do something about it. So, I say it’s okay to have a little pity party — we all need them from time to time. Hopefully you’ll be able to visit Idaho soon enough and see the temple in person. πŸ™‚

    We just pretend your visit is coming right up. Let me assure you that the temple floor plan is open and when you do come and attend the temple you will be able to see the whole thing. So just take one whole day to feel bad and then get busy and forget about it. That’s how I used to handle Christmas while the boys were on their missions. We love you!

    I’m sorry to here that. I know it’s always hard when exciting things happen at home. But at least you live in a REALLY COOL PLACE! Hopefully you’ll get to see the temple (and your family soon). In the meantime, hang in there!

    Just remember all the fund times with your family and then remember all the fun things your family is experiencing now. Just like it was said before the temple will be open when you do get to visit!

    I would be bummed too — I won’t lie. Sometimes things just stink. πŸ™ But now you’ve got me all excited for when our temple finally gets built in Gilbert. It’s like 5 minutes from my house! WOO HOO!

    That’s so hard. I hate it! Something similar happened for me last weekend– I missed going to a big family reunion a 3 hour drive away because we were leaving for a 5 hour drive to a wedding the next day, and I thought it would be too hard on the kids. But then a bunch of my cousins came who don’t usually come who I haven’t seen for a long time! It would have been so hard and impractical to go, but that doesn’t make it feel any better…. Better go find some chocolate, eh?

    Yeah, my family went on their annual camping trip/reunion last week, and I cried, too. It looks like Kent and I are going to be here in Texas for about 5 years after we graduate in April, and it’s good, because it’s a good job here for Kent, but I’m really having a hard time thinking about being away from family. I know how you feel. It is hard sometimes.

    I’m so sorry that you are missing those important moments with your family in Idaho! I think you are definitely entitled to a pity-party, sometimes those parties just feel good to attend every once and awhile! I hope you get to visit soon–anytime you are able to make it to Idaho, I’d love to see you and catch up! (Summer 2009, perhaps? We can’t wait to be back by then!)

    I’ve had a few of those parties also- pretty much part of the world we live in, seeing as families aren’t living right next door to each other anymore. Thank heaven for some of the little blessings like- email, blogs, and airplanes. {just wish it didn’t cost so much to fly :}
    I feel for you- I know it stinks-
    Sounds like you have lots of support and will keep busy and make it through it all.
    Happy Party :{

    I’m so sad you didn’t get to go visit your family and see the new temple. It is beautiful! And I know all too well how hard it can be living so far away from family πŸ™‚
