We had quite the full weekend, what with Lily's birthday (which I will hopefully post about soon) and everything else. This weekend was also a big weekend because both the boys and the girls went camping, but not together.
The Boys
This weekend was the Father's and Son's Camp-out for our ward, and Kevin was very excited to finally get to go with his son :). So he and Derek loaded up all the camping stuff and headed out to Ft McAllister for a night of adventure. They set up camp, and then Kevin spent the next few hours just letting Derek run, while he followed the silly boy.
They had a wonderful time, and Derek had his best night's sleep ever. Kevin said he woke up only once for a second, and then he slept in until 7:30am!! I guess the fresh air agreed with him – it's just too bad he won't do that on a regular basis.
The Girls
Friday night was also a camping adventure for Lily and I, since it was the night of our pre-camp camp-out for Young Womens. Lily was so excited, and it only took her a few minutes to have all of the girls wrapped around her little finger :). My favorite parts were watching her chase the bunnies that were all over the place, having her be the model for all the first aid training we did with the girls, and then when she kept pulling logs bigger than her over to the fire and asking if we could add them to it. (It was quite a challenge to get our fire started since it had been raining all day and everything was drenched.)
That night I got almost no sleep, even though we ended up inside because of the weather, but I guess that is what you expect with a bunch of teenagers :). The funniest thing was that even after they quited down , I stayed up talking to the other leader until after 1 am, so it was my fault.
The next morning we got up early for our 5 mile hike. Lily, who was the first one up, regardless of the fact she had stayed up 3 hours past her bedtime, ran around waking up the girls and letting them know it was her birthday. She was so excited for the hike, but only lasted about 5 minutes before her lack of sleep caught up with her, and so darn, I didn't get to do the whole 5 miles – he he! We had a wonderful time at our camp-out, and I am so glad Lily got to go with me :).
