For some reason, Easter always seems to be a crazy day for me. I don't know why it happens. Last year I was the crazy person who thought it was a good idea to make cinnamon rolls for Primary, and this year I don't know what happened, but I was still a little crazy. Aside from my insanity (and Lily stepping in dog poop while I was taking her picture – curse the people who don't clean up after their dogs!), it was a wonderful weekend. Kevin actually had a day off for the first time in 12 days, and so we took full advantage – plus it was Lily's Spring Break :).
Friday morning, Kevin and I played nine holes of golf. I hadn't been golfing for 3 1/2 years, which was way too long ago for as much as I love it. (Golf is not a good sport for mothers of young children.) It was so much fun, and although I am way out of shape and out of practice, I had a blast. And hey, if I hadn't four putted all but one hole, my score would have been pretty tolerable. And hey, it was a pretty awesome date activity :).
That afternoon, after a fun lunch as a family, we took the kids to see Horton Hears a Who. The book is Kevin's favorite, and so we had been looking forward to it. It was great, and we loved it, although Derek is incapable of sitting still that long. Sadly, he sat perfectly through the 20 minutes of previews. Oh well.
Saturday we were on a mission to get Derek a real "big boy bed." The toddler bed had been too small for a while, but we were trying to figure out how to rearrange the kid's room to fit two beds. After much maneuvering of furniture, we succeeded. The one funny thing is that that we bought a new mattress for Lily and gave Derek her old one. Well, the new mattress made her bed like 4 feet tall. So now I will be buying her a step stool to get on it :).
Then the kids had an Easter Egg hunt at our apartment complex. They had a blast, and both of them found a prize egg, which meant they won an Easter basket. Very fun!
That evening I did a family photo shoot for some friends. The pictures turned out great, and you would never know that all of us were devoured by sand gnats. I guess it doesn't matter what time of day you go. I have decided that any pictures I take in March, must only be at the beach. (Is it strange that there aren't really and sand gnats where the sand is? I think it has something to do with the ocean.)
Sunday, despite the craziness, we all got into our brand new Easter clothes, and made it to church on time.
Kevin and I sang a beautiful arrangement of "I Know That My Redeemer Lives," for Sacrament Meeting, and although I was so nervous that I felt like my heart might explode or that I might stop breathing, it went very well.
After church, we had a nice Turkey dinner (Can I just say that turkey roasts are awesome?!). Then it was time for our family Easter Egg hunt. Lily hid Derek's eggs with me, and Kevin and Derek hid Lily's eggs. Then we video taped the whole hilarious scene :). I have got to say that it is definitely the highlight of my day.
Here's Derek's hunt . . .
He really enjoyed eating the mini Cadbury Egg he found in one of his eggs.
And here is Lily's hunt . . .
And Kevin got the kids a special Easter gift – High School Musical – Sing It! video game. We spent the rest of the night playing it with the kids. So much fun!
It was a wonderful Easter. I can't think of a better way to celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, then to spend time together as a family. I feel very blessed, and I hope you all had a wonderful holiday as well.
