So way back when I realized that this year would be my 30th birthday, I told Kevin that the only present I wanted was a huge party to celebrate. I had decided that if we went all out celebrating with all our friends, that I would not only be okay with turning 30, but that I would be excited about it. He asked what I had in mind, and I told him that I wanted to, "Celebrate in style." Hence, the theme for my birthday extravaganza :).
I passed the reins to Kevin, and he not only put together an awesome invitation , but he came up with some wonderful ideas for the party. And although we weren't able to find a place to hold it, other than our living room, it was all working out great.
So, the invitations were sent, telling everyone to dress in their best red-carpet fare, the disco ball came out of storage, and the red carpet was unfurled in front of our door. And of course, Kevin and I had to get some fabulous new clothes – his new gray suit, and my sparkly black dress :).
Oh, and we also put together some fabulous food! Everything from a chocolate fountain, to quiche, cheesecake, eclairs, to cream puffs. Yum!
And then we hired Cayman, our amazing babysitter, as a waiter for the party. Let me tell you, that was the best idea EVER! Not only was he an amazing help before hand when I was setting it all up, but he was so good at his job, I never once had to worry about the food. It completely eliminated my normal hostess stress.
And miracle of miracles, when the guests arrived, Kevin and I had just gotten the kids to sleep. (And yes, they slept through the whole party. Sound machines are wonderful things.) We had quite a turnout, and everyone was dressed to the nines, except for a few stubborn husbands – he he! I wish I had taken everyone's picture, but the party was so fun, I forgot.
Soon, we had not only broken out the karaoke machine, but Kevin had brought out Guitar Hero. He had two guitars, and so they were able to compete with each other.
It was pretty awesome watching my friend Suzanne destroy all the guys :).
And as tends to happen when a karaoke machine is brought out, I spend a little too much time on the microphone. What can I say, I have an addiction :). We all had so much fun, and I can't think of a better way to celebrate my birthday. I am definitely blessed to have such an amazing husband and such wonderful friends.
Check out the video to see just how much fun we had :).
PS. Just a funny side note – the day of my party was also the day that Savannah celebrated St. Patrick's Day – a HUGE party in the city. So, I am pretty sure that my party was the only sober one in the entire city :).
