I am finally getting around to posting about our weekend. It was a busy one, and the activities began on Friday. I was at one of those points where I truly NEEDED to get out of the house, and since Kevin wasn't feeling up to going out, he kindly offered to watch the kids and told me to find a friend and do something fun, which is exactly what I did.
I ended up going with my friend September to her son's basketball game. We went out for some BBQ first and then went to the game. Hayden has got to be one of the coolest kids ever, and so I was very excited to watch him play. I even brought my camera along to experiment with some pictures, but got so caught up in the game, I missed a lot of great shots. It was so fun, and was actually an intense game that they won in overtime, and I ended up cheering so much, I lost my voice – pretty funny.
Saturday was a true family day. We started the day with Kevin's favorite Brown Sugar Muffins, and then we got dressed up and went to the church for the Hailey's baptism, the daughter of our good friends, the Christensen's. It was an especially exciting time for them, because Joe was home from Iraq for his R&R leave. He even got to meet his 6 month old baby boy for the first time upon coming home.
After the baptism, we went to lunch and off to go bowling at Ft. Stewart. Kevin had to try out the awesome bright orange bowling shoes I gave him for Christmas – and his new bowling bag, of course. We had a great time, and Derek even got to bowl a few times. It took pictures with my phone, since I forgot my camera, and so they aren't the best, but I had to capture the moment :).
Sunday we had Stake Conference, and it was especially cool because it was a regional broadcast. President Monson and Elder Oaks spoke, and it was a very inspiring meeting.
That afternoon, the fun continued while Kevin played Guitar Hero with the kids, and I went and took family pictures for the Christensen's. We had scheduled it for Saturday, but the weather didn't cooperate, and since Joe has to go back to Iraq soon, we had to take advantage of a window of good weather. They turned out very nice.
The best part of Sunday for me, however, was after the kids went to bed and Kevin and I played Skip-Bo. We hadn't played it in years, and randomly found it at the PX on Saturday. We had a blast, and Kevin won – of course – although I did give him a run for his money :).
It was a great weekend, and was just what I needed to face another week.
PS. Saturday night Derek slept through the night for the first time in his two years of life. Asleep by 8pm and didn't wake up until 6am. WOW! However, he followed that up by being up all night coughing on Sunday night. Oh well, you take what you can get :).
