Sometimes I wonder what we would do for entertainment without Lily around. She is always making us smile, chuckle, or just plain laugh out loud. Little did I know when I bought a new case of Target diapers for Derek, what lay in store for that empty box.
Lily began with just playing in it, but that wasn't enough, and soon I found myself with markers and scissors transforming it into a car – complete with a place to put gas into it from her imaginary gas station she had me create with a belt and a chair.
After creating a "big city" for her to drive her car around, complete with tunnels and a very spacious garage, Lily set to playing with her car. All too soon, the car just wasn't enough. I gave her some stickers and markers to decorate it, and later – with her dad's help – she added a mini TV and remote, and all sorts of spry gadget buttons to change her car into anything you can imagine. (I wonder where she got that idea from – perhaps the Backyardigan's Super Secret Super Spy movie – he he!)
Soon, even all the gadgets were not enough, she wanted a plane with wings, and since, "Mom, you can't pretend to have wings. I need real wings!" – I was a sucker and fashioned her some wings. Good old duct tape didn't let me down.
Lily was super excited about this new plane, but was quite put out when I told her that she would have to "imagine" she was flying. "But mom, I need you to make me fly for real." After much discussion, I think she finally realized that I am just not strong enough to make that happen, and so she decided to make it fly all by herself.
She has always loved planes 🙂 – and heck, maybe someday she'll get her wish of becoming an astronaut someday. Then she will not only fly, but she'll have more gadgets than she knows what to do with. And if that doesn't work out, maybe she'll get to be her second choice of profession . . . the Statue of Liberty :).
