We had the greatest weekend!!  After months and months with no visitors, Kevin's parents came to see us (or rather, the cute kids)!!  I cannot begin to tell you how excited we were, and how much fun we had, but I'll try.

Img_3432 They flew in on Friday, and since Kevin had the day off, we went to the airport to surprise them.  Lily stood there waiting as patiently as was possible for her, and was rewarded with huge hugs from Grandma and Grandpa.  Then Derek got into the action by trying to escape from Grandpa :).

Collage_33  We had a great time catching up, as well as planning our adventures for the next day.  You see, last year when they came, we let going to The Lady and Sons (Paula Deen's restaurant) pass us by, but this time we had a plan!

Img_3446 Bright and early, Kevin and Dennis went to downtown Savannah to stand in the cold, waiting in line for a seating time.  Since it is the off season, and since they got there at the perfect time, we got our time right at 11am.

It was really sort of a crazy experience, and since none of us really knew what to expect, it was an adventure in its own right.  A huge group of us stood on the sidewalk across the street waiting, when out comes a girl with a dinner bell.  She rang it loud, and then they started calling names.  We were only the 2nd group called, but since we were in the back of the group, and with a common name like Brown, we almost lost our table to people who said, "Well if they aren't here, I can be the Browns."  It's all good though, as I beat them to the punch, and we were on our way to having an amazing lunch!

Our table was on the 3rd floor, and so we had some great views of Savannah, but the best thing was the food!  Wow!  Some of the best fried chicken ever, but my favorite were the hot biscuits.  Derek loved the corn-cakes (delicious pancakes made with cornmeal), Lily her pineapple cake, Dennis the banana pudding, Valerie the biscuits, and Kevin – the chicken.  Cindy will be proud, because I even tried the collard greens, which I learned that I don't like :).  It was a huge check mark off of all our lists, and such a fun time!Img_3440

That afternoon we went swimming at the hotel pool.  Lily had been talking about it all day, but then got a little nervous because she couldn't touch the bottom.  We had been wanting to show off her new skills, but she refused to go in without her waterwings.  Oh well.  The best laid plans . . . but we had a great time anyway :).Collage2_1

Sunday was a great day at church – not only did I have Kevin there to help, but his parents as well.  Let me tell you, it is so much easier to run primary when I am not chasing Derek all over the church.  Sunday actually felt peaceful for the first time in forever.

After dinner, we had a mini-Superbowl party – consisting of the 6 of us.  Lily wasn't too keen on the football, but she LOVED all the great snacks Grandpa had bought.  She had to try all of them, except for the shrimp – he he!  And Kevin was happy, because the Colts won.

Sadly, all good things have to come to an end, and Dennis and Valerie flew out today.  We miss them already, but had such a wonderful time.  Lily spent hours reading books, coloring, and playing blocks with them.  Kevin got to show off all sorts of fun things, and just enjoy his parents company.  Derek got to show off his dance moves and goofy grin – that and his escape tactics.  And I loved just having them in our home and watching it all (plus getting some sewing tips).  What a wonderful weekend!

PS.  We love visitors, and you are welcome anytime :)!!

I wish I could come visit! I’m glad you had such a good time. I just love Kevin’s mom, I got to chat with her a few months ago and she seems so cool. She had wonderful things to say about you as well! I saw Paula Deen on a magazine cover this morning at Fred Meyer’s and thought of you. She was holding an adorable little baby boy named Jack, I’m thinking it must be her grandson. I would love to eat at her restaurant sometime. How fun that you guys went and did that together. The vision of you guys running for your table to the sound of the bell was hillarious!
