To talk about this weekend, I have broken into three separate posts – one for Derek, one for Lily, and one for me, with a little bit of family stuff sprinkled in it.
This weekend really began on Friday, when we loaded up the kids and drove to Charleston, South Carolina to go to Costco. We went with our friends Cindy and Isaac, mostly to get stuff for the Primary activity the next day, but to stock up as well.
After we bought our stuff, we headed to downtown Charleston to have lunch. It is a gorgeous city, right on the water, and full of history and fun. I was sad that I had a cooler full of food in our trunk, and so we couldn't see more, but we will definitely be coming back.
We had lunch at a fun ice-cream shop, and while we were eating, Lily proposed marriage to Isaac :). This was brought on by a conversation we had in the car, when she said she wanted to marry daddy. When we said she couldn't, she changed to Derek, which we also told her no to. So, after doing some thinking, she came right out and said, "Isaac, will you marry me?" Too bad for Lily, he is already married to Cindy. She will have to keep looking :).
Saturday was a busy day, staring out early with me, Cindy, and Desery (my secretary) setting up for our "Meet Your Teacher Primary Breakfast." We had kept it simple, with cut up Costco muffins, and big trays of apples, oranges, and bananas for the food. Each class sat at a table with their teacher, which was decorated with things about themselves. (One of our teachers is in the Army, and she brought her Kevlar helmet, body armor, and gas mask – the kids loved it!) They came up with class rules, ate, and had fun. They even got to wear their pj's. It was quite a success, and a big check mark on my list.
Today was insane. The first Sunday of the year is always crazy for primary, but today was made crazier by the fact that my 1st counselor had a baby a week ago, my 2nd counselor had to race to the hospital last night because her father was badly injured while breaking a horse, and my chorister was home with a horribly wrenched neck. This left me and my secretary, which meant I conducted, taught sharing time, and because I didn't have time to get a replacement, I lead the music as well. I also had to somehow find a minute to orient my brand new nursery leaders, who I wasn't sure if they were coming until the last minute (I had to take them out of sacrament meeting to do it.).
By the time I got home, I was hoarse, my feet were killing me, and I was so tired I thought I was going to pass out. Thank goodness Kevin was able to be there, which meant he had Derek. That would have made things even trickier. Even though it was exhausting, it was a wonderful day. all my teachers were there, Lily was a new sunbeam, and my sharing time went well.
To end our weekend, we had the missionaries over for dinner. I love feeding them, because they are so fun and leave such a great feeling in our house. I made pork chops – a simple and never fail meal – but somehow, it failed. The porkchops were fine, but when I lifted the lid on the rice, well, it wasn't good. It was a soupy, half cooked mess. My brain was so fried, who knows what I did. At least they loved the pork chops – and I bribed them with big chocolate Costco muffins, so hopefully they forgot all about it :).
Well, I am still exhausted, but I am breathing a huge sigh of relief. This weekend is over, and now I can move on. It's all good.
