If you know me well, not only do you know that I don't like any kind of sea food, but that I am very creeped out by creatures like crabs or shrimp – especially when they are alive. This did not stop me from going to our Relief Society Enrichment meeting, however, even though the activity consisted of catching, cooking, and eating crab.
So, fighting against my fear, I put on my swim suit and shorts, and headed out to the river. Granted, I love any excuse to be social – and Kevin even had the day off to watch the kids, since it was too dangerous to bring them along – but crabbing? Me? I guess so.
I was pretty nervous at first, given that you have to pull the crab nets out of the water super fast, and then get the mean little buggers into a bucket without them escaping or pinching you. The first few times I caught one, I had to yell for someone to help me, because they freaked me out so bad, I was afraid I would drop them back into the river.
All in all, I had an amazing time! I caught 6 crabs, learned how to cook them (which is creepier than catching them), and even ate some (creepier than catching or cooking them). I learned that I still don't like the taste of crab, but I like to catch 'em. Go figure. Maybe it is because you get to sit back, relax, and look out at this gorgeous view . . .
PS. If you look in the background of the first 2 pictures, you can see some oyster beds. Now, those are some creatures I will never eat. He he!
