Poor Derek!  He has had thrush since he was only 2 weeks old.  Unfortunately, every time we got close to getting rid of it, it came right back.  The problem was in the Nystatin – the medicine they prescribed him.  (I guess it only works about 40 % of the time.)  So, after trying it 3 separate times, the doctor finally gave us the “purple stuff,” aka: Gentian Violet.  This medicine is 99 % effective, but stains everything a deep shade of purple.  So, needless to say, Derek went around with a purple mouth and looking like he had on purple lipstick, and I went around in old worn clothes that I didn’t care about staining.  Yesterday was his last day on the meds, and now he is well and purple free.

PS.  Derek had his 4 month appointment on Monday.  He weighed 17 pounds, and was 25 1/2 inches tall.  He is definitely our BIG baby.

My nephew had thrush and he used the violet meds. The first time I saw him with the purple on his face, it had faded to blue and I thought he wasn’t breathing. That was a scare!
